Lewandowski strikes twice as Barcelona beat Girona to take LaLiga lead

Barcelona moved three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of LaLiga after a convincing 4-1 win over visitors Girona on Sunday. Robert Lewandowski netted his 25th goal in the league, extending his tally ahead of Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé.

The Polish striker scored twice in the second half, including an acrobatic finish in the 77th minute, as Barcelona dominated the game from start to finish. Ferran Torres and Arnaut Danjuma also found the net for Barcelona, while Girona’s Ladislav Krejcí scored an own goal in the 43rd minute.

The victory marked Lewandowski’s milestone 25th goal of the season, making him the league’s top scorer. The 36-year-old striker is defying expectations with his performances, saying he works as hard as ever and wants to play for more seasons.

Barcelona dominated the game from the opening stages, but Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga kept them at bay with crucial saves in the first half. However, a Yamal free kick was deflected in by Krejcí’s own goal just before halftime, giving Barcelona a 1-0 lead.

Girona equalized through Danjuma in the second half, but Lewandowski and Torres responded with two more goals to seal the victory. The win pushed Barcelona to 66 points from 29 games, three points ahead of Real Madrid.
