Lexus has revealed its new Sport Concept at Monterey Car Week, and it’s shaping up to be part of something special. The car is not the production version of the camouflaged car spotted on California roads and in the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but rather one of three high-performance coupes from Toyota.
The Lexus Sport Concept appears to be a luxury coupe, likely replacing the slow-selling LC model. It features Lexus design cues and has been identified as a Lexus by Lexus itself. The powertrain is expected to be an electrified twin-turbo V-8, but details are scarce. What’s certain is that this car will be priced in the $200,000 range.
The Toyota GT Concept, seen testing with a previous-generation AMG GT-R, is likely to be a performance hybrid, while the Lexus Sport Concept might be a plug-in hybrid. The power output and specific details remain unknown, but it’s expected that the Lexus version will produce more power than its Toyota counterpart.
Toyota has confirmed three new high-performance cars under development: an endurance race car for GT3 competition, a sports car/supercar, and this luxury coupe. The latter is expected to reach production by early 2027.
The Sport Concept is not the only exciting news from Lexus and Toyota. With rumored plans for Gazoo Racing as a standalone brand, a $200,000 halo supercar could be in the works. The GR GT Concept has been speculated as a potential name for this car, which might be launched by the end of 2025.
