LG Ditches OLED for QNED TVs in 2025

LG is shifting its focus from OLED technology to Quantum Dot-Nitrogen Emission Display (QNED) TVs starting with the 2025 model lineup. The company’s new QNED evo series will feature improved AI, gaming capabilities, and a proprietary Dynamic QNED Color Solution that replaces quantum dots.

The flagship QNED92 series boasts Dynamic QNED Color Pro for 95% DCI-P3 color space coverage, while the QNED9M and QNED85 series use regular LED backlights with a Dynamic QNED Color solution covering 93% of the DCI-P3 color space. All new models will feature LG’s Alpha or a8 AI processors and updated webOS 25 smart TV interface.

The QNED evo lineup includes TVs with mini-LED backlights, 100-inch screen sizes, and advanced gaming features like wireless connectivity for up to 144Hz VRR. The 100-inch QNED85 is particularly noteworthy, as it offers a competitive price point despite its large size.

However, the main question surrounding LG’s new LCD TVs is whether Dynamic QNED Color will provide sufficient alternative to quantum dots in terms of brightness and color depth. With LG being bullish on its QNED TV lineup for 2025, we’ll need to wait and see how this technology pans out when the new models become available this spring.
