The Tampa Bay Lightning rallied from a deficit to secure a 6-5 win over the Buffalo Sabres at Amalie Arena on Thursday. Jake Guentzel scored a hat trick, including two goals in the second period and one in the third, to lead the Lightning’s comeback.
Bjorkstrand broke the tie early in the third period with his debut goal for the Lightning, giving them a 6-5 lead. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 28 saves, while Nikita Kucherov had two assists.
Oliver Bjorkstrand’s first game for the Lightning was marked by his impressive performance, breaking a tie early in the third period to secure a win for the team. “I was just trying to stay around the net,” he said. “Yanni Gourde had a good screen and it just kind of came in front of me.”
The Sabres had taken an early lead, but the Lightning fought back. The Buffalo forward Dylan Cozens conceded that his team gave away too many chances to the Lightning, allowing them to capitalize.
“We knew they were going to get some chances,” said Lightning coach Jon Cooper. “It was a big play for us when Cernak blocked Thompson’s shot from the point.”
The Sabres had two minor penalties and pulled their goalie in the final minutes but the Lightning held on for the win.
NOTES: The game saw Victor Hedman leave early due to injury, while Jack Quinn departed with an illness.
