Eli Lilly and Company has announced a significant expansion at its recently acquired facility in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, investing $3 billion and creating approximately 750 new jobs. The development plans include the addition of guided vehicles, robotics, and production equipment to accelerate medicine production.
The company’s CEO, David Ricks, emphasized the importance of speed and efficiency in pharmaceutical manufacturing, citing the limited time available for product marketability. Lilly will begin construction in 2025 and plans to produce an injectable drug for treating diabetes, obesity, and other conditions.
To support the expansion, Lilly is working with the state and Kenosha County on a tax incentive package. The company’s largest investment outside its home state of Indiana, the project will also create high-wage jobs for advanced manufacturing, engineering, and science professionals.
Lilly plans to hire half of the 750 employees requiring four-year college degrees, while the other half will require only two-year degrees or high school diplomas. The company is collaborating with community colleges and universities to provide workforce training.
The expansion is part of Lilly’s efforts to establish Wisconsin as a critical geography for its global manufacturing operations. Wisconsin has been designated as a U.S. Regional Tech Hub in personalized medicine and biohealth, making it an attractive location for pharmaceutical companies like Lilly.
