Lilo & Stitch and Mission Impossible: Box Office Battle Heats Up

Disney’s live-action take on 2002’s animated adventure Lilo & Stitch is off to a strong start at the global box office, grossing $56.3M in its first three days overseas across 50 markets. The film, which opened in France, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, and Spain, has already exceeded pre-weekend projections and is expected to continue its upward trend.

Lilo & Stitch’s top-performing markets include Mexico ($9.4M), UK ($4.2M), France ($4.1M), Italy ($3.8M), Brazil ($3.7M), Germany ($2.5M), and Central America ($2.2M).

In contrast, Paramount/Skydance’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has also performed well, raking in $75.9M through Friday across 64 offshore markets. The film is running ahead of its 2023 counterpart at the same point, thanks to extensive previews that began last weekend.

Both films have received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, making for a great start to summer moviegoing. However, it’s worth noting that this is not a competition between the two movies, but rather an energizer for cinemas worldwide.

While Lilo & Stitch has faced some criticism for its remake, fans are overwhelmingly in favor of the film, which stands on its own and is finding success with kids who don’t care about the changes. With this momentum, it’s possible that Lilo & Stitch could reach $1.6 billion at the global box office.

As for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, while some may be hesitant to predict a specific figure, it’s clear that the film is on track to achieve significant success, potentially reaching $1 billion or more.
