Lincoln is experiencing one of its worst flu seasons in recent memory, with a high number of local cases reported. According to the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, 918 positive flu tests were recorded in January, making it the highest level for that month and second-highest overall since at least 2017.
In other news, teachers in Lincoln may see their salaries increase by up to 3.8% as a proposed agreement between the Lincoln Public Schools and the local teachers union is set to be voted on later this month. The agreement includes salary raises, changes to the pay plan for new teachers, and additional time off for longtime educators.
Lawmakers in Nebraska have also given first-round approval to a bill that would shield private companies from class action lawsuits over data breaches. The proposed law, sponsored by Sen. Bob Hallstrom, would prevent companies from being held liable unless the breach was caused by their own “willful, wanton, or gross negligence.”
