The Linux 6.13 kernel has been released to stable, marking the start of the Linux 6.14 merge window. This major kernel release for 2025 comes with several notable features. The new version includes support for AMD’s 3D V-Cache Optimizer on multi-CCD Ryzen X3D processors and EPYC 9005 “Turin” server processors, which now default to AMD P-State for better power efficiency. Intel Xe3 graphics bring-up has also begun.
The kernel supports many older Apple devices, including iPads and iPhones, pre-M1 models. Additionally, it includes support for the NVMe 2.1 specification and AutoFDO and Propeller optimization when compiling the Linux kernel with LLVM Clang. More Rust programming language infrastructure is also included.
In the past week since Linux 6.13-rc7, some notable changes were merged. The EXECMEM_ROX support on x86_64 was disabled due to a Microsoft-contributed code issue during the v6.13 merge window. A fix for EEVDF scheduling lag and other patches have also been added.
The start of the Linux 6.14 development cycle is expected to be exciting.
