The Detroit Lions are facing an uphill battle in addressing their pass rush woes, with Trey Hendrickson and Joey Bosa emerging as key targets in the defensive line market.
Hendrickson, a first-team All-Pro and sack leader in 2024, is seeking a deal that will pay him at the top of the defensive end market. The Bengals’ star pass rusher has spent four years with the team, earning Pro Bowl honors each season, but now seeks a new home due to his remaining year on his contract.
On the other hand, Joey Bosa’s injury concerns have led the Los Angeles Chargers to release him, saving the team over $25 million. Despite struggling with injuries in recent seasons, Bosa still managed to finish as a Pro Bowl alternate in 2025 and could come at a lower price tag due to his health issues.
The Lions’ connection to Hendrickson is rooted in their head coach Dan Campbell’s time on the New Orleans Saints staff, where he worked alongside Hendrickson from 2017. However, general manager Brad Holmes has expressed skepticism about making another big move for a defensive end, citing the need to protect young players like Aidan Hutchinson and Kerby Joseph.
Bosa is also being linked to the San Francisco 49ers, who have an opening on their roster due to Khalil Mack’s impending free agency. The Lions will likely face stiff competition for both Hendrickson and Bosa, but with a significant investment in pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson looming, they may need to make a move to bolster their defensive line.
