A popular line of mushrooms sold in Michigan and Ohio has been recalled due to potential listeria contamination. Wiet Peeters Farm Products Limited, based in Ontario, Canada, has issued a voluntary recall of three mushroom products after routine testing detected traces of the bacteria.
The affected products include 227g packages of Aunt Mid’s Fresh Sliced Mushrooms with a best-before date of 25JL04 and UPC code 0 33383 676005. Other recalled products are Peeters Mushroom Farm Cremini Sliced Mushrooms and Thick Slice Mushrooms, also sold in 10lb cardboard boxes.
The bacteria, listeria monocytogenes, can cause severe illness or death in vulnerable individuals, including young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. While no illnesses have been reported yet, health officials warn that consumers may still have the contaminated products at home.
Consumers are advised to return the recalled mushrooms to the place of purchase for a full refund. The company can be contacted directly at 1-519-351-1945 or toll-free at 1-800-364-1305 during business hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:00am to 3:30pm EST.
