Listeria Recall: 3 Deaths, 1 Pregnancy Loss Linked to Recalled Pasta

A multistate listeria outbreak linked to recalled “ready-to-eat” pasta has resulted in three deaths and one pregnancy loss. The affected products were sold at Walmart and Kroger stores.

The US Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the recall notice after detecting an outbreak strain of listeria in chicken fettuccine Alfredo products produced by FreshRealm. The company recalled products with a production date prior to June 17, as they may be adulterated with the contaminated product.

Consumers who purchased these products are advised to discard or return them immediately. Affected products include:

– Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettucine Tender Pasta and Creamy Alfredo Sauce
– Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo

Listeria infection can be deadly for vulnerable populations, such as older Americans, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.

The FDA and FSIS are working together to determine the source of contamination and take steps to protect public health. Consumers can check their product’s best-by date to see if it is affected by this recall.
