NASA astronaut Jonny Kim is set to embark on a historic mission aboard the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft, launching from Star City, Russia. We caught up with him via live interview on March 19, 2025, at 9:00 am local time.
Kim will join Expedition 73 as a flight engineer, marking his second spaceflight with NASA. Born in Queens, New York, Kim is one of the first Asian-American astronauts to represent the United States in space.
During our conversation, we discussed Kim’s background, training, and what it takes to be part of this elite group of space explorers. As he prepares for liftoff, Kim shared insights into his experience as a NASA astronaut and his expectations for the mission.
The Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft is expected to dock at the International Space Station (ISS) later this month, where Kim will spend several months conducting scientific research and maintaining the station’s systems.
