Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised his side’s resilience as they edged past Bournemouth 2-0 at Vitality Stadium, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League table to nine points with 15 games remaining.
The Cherries, who had already beaten Arsenal and Manchester City at home this season, gave Liverpool a real fright before Mohamed Salah scored a penalty and curled in his second goal to seal the win. Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo hit the post twice and their striker David Brooks was ruled offside when he scored, which would have levelled the score.
Goalkeeper Alisson made several crucial saves for Liverpool, including one with his legs to deny Semenyo at 1-0. Slot highlighted his side’s teamwork, saying: “You need a team performance, a work rate and individual quality.” He also credited Salah as key to their success in this game.
Liverpool continue to impress across all competitions, finishing top of the Champions League group stage and reaching the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. With their title rivals Arsenal playing Manchester City on Sunday, Liverpool remain at the forefront of the Premier League chase. Their unbeaten league run now stands at 19 games since a defeat by Forest on September 14th.
