Liverpool players will report for preseason training on Tuesday, marking the beginning of their preparations for the new campaign following the tragic loss of forward Diogo Jota. The 28-year-old’s death in a car accident in northwest Spain last week led to a postponement of initial preseason plans.
The team attended Jota’s funeral in Portugal, with Liverpool boss Arne Slot and several first-team players paying their respects. The squad is now expected to gather at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday as they start gearing up for the upcoming season.
However, the club’s first preseason friendly against Preston North End remains uncertain due to Jota’s passing. Thousands of messages and floral tributes have been left outside Anfield as a mark of respect to Jota and his brother AndrĂ© Silva.
Liverpool FC described the brothers’ death as “unimaginable” loss in a statement, with captain Virgil van Dijk expressing his devastation and disbelief at the news.
