Liverpool secured a shocking 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round-of-16 first leg, thanks to a late goal from substitute Harvey Elliott. The English team dominated possession but created very few chances until Elliott scored 47 seconds after coming on.
PSG outplayed their visitors for most of the game and had several clear scoring opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net. Despite being given warnings, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson kept his team in the game with a string of impressive saves.
Alisson was named man of the match, saying it was the performance of his life. Elliott scored the winning goal after a layoff from fellow substitute Darwin Núñez, and praised Alisson’s efforts in keeping Liverpool in the game.
The win sets up a tough return leg at Anfield next Tuesday, where PSG will look to overcome their deficit. The winner will face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the Champions League quarterfinals.
