Liverpool opened up a nine-point lead in the Premier League title race with a 2-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday. Mohamed Salah continued his sensational season, scoring both goals and taking his league tally to 21. The Egyptian winger took his penalty after half an hour and then curled home an exquisite second goal in the 75th minute.
Liverpool rode their luck at times against an unbeaten side, but Salah proved the difference once again. “It feels good to be fair, scoring goals, the team winning, it’s an incredible feeling,” he said. The Egyptian forward praised his team’s performance, saying they were playing on top of their abilities and needed a bit of luck to win.
The victory lifted Liverpool into sixth place on the all-time Premier League scoring list with 178 goals, ahead of Frank Lampard. Bournemouth had begun full of energy but gradually fell behind as Liverpool exerted authority. The Cherries thought they had levelled in the 37th minute, but VAR confirmed that Milos Kerkez was fractionally offside.
The win marked a cruel blow for Bournemouth, who remain seventh and are now on the hunt for their first league loss since late November. With 15 games remaining, Liverpool look indestructible and are well-positioned to secure the title.
