Lloyd Howell Jr. Steps Down Amid Strip Club Expenses and Controversy Scandal

NFL Players Association Executive Director Lloyd Howell Jr. has resigned from his role amid controversy over expenses for strip club trips. In a statement, Howell said his leadership had become a distraction to the union’s work. The NFLPA declined to comment on the matter.

According to reports, receipts showed that the union paid for a car service and other costs at Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami, with charges totaling $2,426. A second trip was also reviewed by the union’s lawyers, which included cash withdrawals from an ATM. Howell reportedly earned between $3.5 million and $4 million in his role.

The controversy is not new, as Howell has faced criticism over a part-time consultancy role with The Carlyle Group, a private equity firm with ties to NFL minority ownership. He also kept players in the dark about an arbitration ruling on suspected collusion between team owners.

Howell said he was proud of the work done by the NFLPA but will step back and support the organization from afar.
