LNG companies say they cannot comply with US President Donald Trump’s rules regarding Chinese ships in US ports. The new regulations, which were issued under Trump’s executive order, require foreign-owned vessels to remove all Taiwanese flags and crew members within 120 days.
The American Gas Association, a trade group that represents the nation’s major gas producers, stated that its member companies cannot comply with these rules due to significant investments in Chinese-built LNG storage facilities and equipment. The association also noted that removing Taiwanese flags would be a “prohibited act” under US law.
This move comes as tensions between the US and China continue to escalate over trade and security issues. Trump’s new executive order has been met with skepticism by some lawmakers, who argue that it is too broad and could harm American businesses.
The development highlights the challenges of implementing complex regulations and enforces the need for careful consideration in international trade agreements.
