Augusta native Maurice Johnson will play the lead role of Dr. Ted Richardson in “Beyond the Gates,” a new CBS daytime soap opera centered around a powerful Black family living in an upscale Maryland neighborhood. The show, which premiered on Feb. 24, has already seen success with Nielsen ratings beating General Hospital in its time slot.
Johnson, who graduated from Albany State University with a degree in speech and theater, has also appeared in TV shows like Hawaii Five-O and Chicago Fire, as well as the film Joyful Noise. A watch party for the show will be held on March 7 at the Henry Brigham Community Center, where fans can gather to discuss the latest episodes.
“Beyond the Gates” marks a rare new addition to the daytime soap opera genre on traditional television networks, with only five shows remaining on CBS and ABC. The show follows the Duprees family as they navigate their secrets and scandals within their wealthy and prestigious community.
