Local Business Fosters Creativity Without Alcohol in Sober Community

Austin-based rug tufting workshop The Outrun Hour aims to promote creativity while catering to those who don’t drink or are sober. Owner Zane Pickett started the business last fall, seeking to create a welcoming space for like-minded individuals.

The Outrun Hour offers mocktails and non-alcoholic beverages, providing options for those who abstain from alcohol. Pickett’s goal is to provide a supportive environment where individuals can explore their creativity without feeling pressure to consume drinks.

A recent study by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism found that 9% of 20-somethings were aware of the sober curious movement, with 7% having previously participated in observed breaks like ‘Dry January.’ Pickett hopes his business will contribute to a growing mindfulness around alcohol consumption, encouraging individuals to reevaluate their drinking habits.

By providing a creative outlet and fostering community, The Outrun Hour aims to empower individuals seeking a more mindful approach to alcohol.
