Local Educator’s Life Cut Short by Rabies

A 60-year-old teacher at Bryant Middle School in Dos Palos, California, has died from rabies after being bitten by a bat. Leah Seneng was known for her kind demeanor and love of the arts, which she turned into a career as an art teacher. Her friend Laura Splotch described her as “a lover of life” who spent time exploring the world. Seneng found a bat in her classroom in mid-October but didn’t display any symptoms until about a month later, when she fell ill and was hospitalized. She died on November 22nd after being put into a coma for four days. The Fresno County Department of Public Health says there is no public threat, and vaccines have been administered to healthcare workers and household contacts. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Seneng’s family during this difficult time.
