A new study has revealed the distinct symptoms of long Covid in children. Infants under two years old are more likely to experience trouble sleeping, fussiness, poor appetite, a stuffy nose, and cough, according to researchers from the US National Institutes of Health’s ‘RECOVER’ initiative.
In contrast, children aged three to five are more prone to dry coughs and daytime tiredness or low energy. The study found that 40 infants (14% of those with a history of infection) and 61 preschoolers (15% of those with a history of infection) had long Covid symptoms lasting at least 90 days after their initial COVID-19 infection.
The research, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Pediatrics, highlights the varying symptoms experienced by children compared to adults. The study examined over 470 participants and provides valuable insights into managing long Covid in young children.
