Raphael Bob-Waksberg has shifted gears from his animated franchises to create a deeply personal family sitcom, “Long Story Short,” on Netflix. This 10-episode comedy anthology follows the Schwooper family across multiple timelines and characters, weaving together self-contained stories that gain resonance through their cumulative impact.
The show centers around Avi (Ben Feldman), Shira (Abbi Jacobson), and Yoshi (Max Greenfield) as they navigate various stages of life, from youthful misadventures to mature triumphs. The story is anchored by the matriarchal figure Naomi Schwartz (Lisa Edelstein), whose presence is felt even when she’s absent due to her absence.
Through its unpredictable storytelling and strong voice cast, “Long Story Short” humanizes its characters with empathy and tenderness. The show takes creative liberties, but ultimately shows affection for its flawed and lovable family members. With a talented ensemble and excellent writing, “Long Story Short” has won the hearts of critics and audiences alike.
