Loongson’s 9A2000 GPU Aims for RTX 2080 Performance

Chinese chipmaker Loongson is set to release its new 9A2000 GPU, which promises to deliver performance that is 8-10 times better than its current-generation 9A1000. According to a senior executive, the 9A2000 is comparable to Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2080. This level of performance is expected to be sufficient for running demanding games like Black Myth: Wukong.

The Loongson 9A1000 GPU will focus on entry-level users and offer Radeon RX 550- level performance, making it suitable for budget systems with minimal 3D rendering demands and adequate AI inference capabilities. In contrast, the 9A2000 is designed to target higher-end users who require more powerful graphics processing.

While some PC enthusiasts outside of China may be interested in the Loongson 9A2000 GPU, its lack of DX12 support might be a drawback. However, if the price is right and the performance meets expectations, it could still attract buyers looking for a unique or curiosity-driven purchase.

The company’s executive also confirmed that the 9A2000 can run Black Myth: Wukong, but this may depend on software and driver developments to support more advanced graphics capabilities.
