Los Angeles Chargers Sign Mike Williams to One-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to terms with receiver Mike Williams, the team announced. The deal is worth up to $6 million, according to multiple reports.

Williams was a top-ranked free agent prospect and a favorite target for quarterback Justin Herbert during his first four NFL seasons. He will join the Chargers again after spending time with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers in recent years.

The move fills a glaring hole at X receiver, where Williams can exploit contested catches and take attention away from slot receiver Ladd McConkey. His existing chemistry with Herbert will make the transition to the new offense easier.

Williams signed a three-year, $60 million extension before the 2022 season but was cut due to cap reasons in 2024. He suffered a torn ACL in 2023 and had a down year last season before being traded to the Steelers. The Chargers have bought low on Williams, who is expected to return near full health after nearly two years of rehabilitation.

With this deal, the Chargers project to have around $37 million in remaining cap space for the 2025 season.
