Fierce winds have driven major wildfires across the Los Angeles area, destroying homes and businesses, and forcing thousands to flee. The Palisades fire, which grew quickly in Pacific Palisades, has burned over 3,000 acres as of Wednesday morning.
Other fires have erupted near Pasadena’s Eaton Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains and in Sylmar, in the San Fernando Valley northwest of Los Angeles. Deadly conditions were reported at one of these fires, while smoke from the blazes is spreading south through the city, pushed by strong Santa Ana winds.
Authorities warn that the worst is yet to come, with increasingly wild winds expected to fuel the out-of-control blazes on Wednesday. The cause of the fires remains under investigation.
