A European aerospace outfit’s experimental spacecraft, Mission Possible, successfully completed its mission by entering space and orbiting the Earth before making a fiery descent back to Earth. However, during re-entry, it lost contact with mission control as it entered the ocean.
The unmanned spacecraft was launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on Monday afternoon and was part of a SpaceX mission carrying 70 payloads, including human remains for a space memorial. The Exploration Company’s leadership describes the mission as successful, showcasing the feasibility of building a spacecraft using low-cost, off-the-shelf parts.
Mission Possible was built at a cost of around $20 million and is intended to serve as a test capsule for an advanced cargo vehicle called Nyx, which could potentially carry humans between Earth and the Moon in the future. Despite the setback, The Exploration Company remains committed to pushing forward with its plans, emphasizing the potential benefits of such a reusable spacecraft system.
