Louis DeJoy to Step Down as US Postal Service Head

US Postal Service head Louis DeJoy has announced his plans to step down, and the agency is now searching for his successor. DeJoy, who was appointed in 2020 during the Trump administration, has requested the Board of Governors start looking for a new Postmaster General.

In a letter to the board, DeJoy said he will devote his time and energy to facilitating a smooth transition, ensuring the postal service’s long-term success. His 10-year plan, Delivering for America, aims to modernize USPS operations and reverse decades of neglect with $40 billion in capital investments over ten years.

DeJoy, who has led the agency since 2020, spent more than 35 years building a logistics company before joining the postal service. The Board of Governors praised DeJoy’s leadership and efforts to modernize the Postal Service, saying he “steadfastly served the nation and the Postal Service” over the past five years.

The search for DeJoy’s successor is now underway, with the board identifying an appropriate candidate to take on the role as Postmaster General and CEO of the US Postal Service.
