Louisiana Abandons Public Flu Vaccine Promotion Efforts

The Louisiana Department of Health is no longer publicly promoting flu vaccines, shifting its approach from encouraging all eligible individuals to get vaccinated to advising people to consult their doctor for individual health needs. This change has sparked concerns among groups that data shows the flu shots significantly reduce disease transmission.

According to a statement by Families Fighting Flu, local health departments rely on annual flu vaccine drives, which are now prohibited. Jennifer Herricks, founder of Louisiana Families for Vaccines, warned that this shift could lead to increased flu activity and put vulnerable individuals at risk. Despite the change in promotion efforts, LDH assures that its policy regarding childhood immunizations remains unchanged.
