Lovable, an AI startup from Stockholm, has raised $200 million in its Series A funding round, valuing the company at $1.8 billion. The two-year-old company is now Sweden’s latest unicorn and joins a growing list of AI-focused startups, including OpenAI, Replit, and StackBlitz.
Lovable offers an “AI builder” tool that uses large language models to create websites and apps in minutes, making it accessible to those who cannot code. The startup’s mission is to enable anyone to build, which has caught the attention of design rivals like Figma and Squarespace and established companies like Wix, which dropped $80 million on startup Base44.
The funding round was led by VC Accel, with earlier backers like 20VC, Creandum, Hummingbird, and Visionaries Club also participating. The investment will help Lovable grow its team to 45 people and expand its product to support more complex apps and websites.
Lovable has already landed deals with large companies like Klarna, Hubspot, and French photo editing startup Photoroom. However, the company faced security concerns earlier this year after it was reported that one of its AI tools had created apps with vulnerabilities that exposed user data. Since then, Lovable has strengthened its security checks.
The $200 million funding round surpasses Replit’s $97 million raise in 2023 and StackBlitz’s reported $80 million talks, making Lovable the largest of a cluster of new AI startups emerging from Sweden. The company is now valued at over twice that of its main American rivals.
