Swedish Pro Ludvig Åberg Wins PGA Tour Title at The Genesis Invitational
Ludvig Åberg’s clutch 72nd hole birdie secured his second PGA TOUR title at The Genesis Invitational, edged by just one stroke from Maverick McNealy. Åberg shot a final-round 66 and rose to the challenge in the decisive moment.
Åberg, who was struggling with illness earlier in the week after withdrawing from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, regained his form and poise on the final day. He birdied four of his last six holes to claim the win. Åberg’s calm demeanor and confidence paid off, as he rolled in a nearly 7-foot birdie putt for the winning margin.
The Genesis Invitational was billed as “California Rises,” a tournament supporting the initiative to rebuild fire-stricken Los Angeles. Åberg, who grew up loving California golf courses like Torrey Pines, proved himself to be a true Californian with his relaxed and cool demeanor on the course.
With this win, Åberg became the world No. 6 and cemented his status as a rising star in PGA TOUR golf. He expressed gratitude for his fans’ support and looked forward to his next challenge. After winning, Åberg joked about his likely celebratory meal of In-N-Out Burger, saying “I feel like this is my last day on the West Coast for quite some time.”
