Dallas Mavericks’ former player and coach Saša Dončić has expressed his disappointment and frustration with the team’s decision to trade star player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. In a candid interview, Dončić labeled the Mavericks’ brass involved in the trade as “hypocrites” and claimed that Luka doesn’t deserve the move.
Dončić praised Luka for his charitable work in Dallas since joining the team from Europe in 2018, including frequent visits to hospitals and charity events. He also disputed reports that Luka’s conditioning was a major issue, pointing out that he played extensive minutes despite being injured with a calf strain during the season.
The Mavericks’ general manager Nico Harrison has justified the trade by citing the importance of defense, stating that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset will give the team a better chance to win. However, Dončić feels that those who made the decision should stand by their actions rather than looking for excuses.
Saša’s comments come as Luka attempts to lead the Lakers to another NBA Finals appearance, which would be the Western Conference-rival Lakers’ first since 2010.
