Lynsi Snyder, billionaire heiress and president of In-N-Out Burger, is relocating her family from California to Tennessee due to concerns over safety, business regulations, and difficulties in raising a family. The move comes as the company prepares its first major expansion east of Texas.
Snyder has led In-N-Out since 2010, modernizing the brand while protecting its legacy. She cited California’s challenges as a reason for leaving, stating that “raising a family is not easy here” and “doing business is not easy here.” The Irvine headquarters will close by 2030, with staff shifting to Baldwin Park or Tennessee.
Despite this shift, In-N-Out remains committed to its West Coast roots. Most locations will still be in California, but the company’s expansion into Tennessee marks a new chapter. Snyder aims to focus growth in the Southeast, with Tennessee stores expected to open by 2026.
The relocation is driven by concerns over crime and regulations, which led to In-N-Out’s temporary closures in San Francisco. Snyder also criticized pandemic-era mandates, including rules requiring restaurants to check vaccine cards. She prioritizes her family’s safety and values, saying “this is a family move too.” The company is building a new 100,000-square-foot office in Franklin, Tennessee, which will support growth across neighboring states.
In-N-Out has resisted opening locations in Florida and along the East Coast, sticking to its model of quality control and logistics. Snyder emphasized that the expansion is focused on existing supply lines from the brand’s Texas meat facility. The move marks a new direction for the company, with Snyder at the helm shaping its growth strategy.
