Lysosomes May Hold Key to Reversing Aging Process

Researchers have discovered that the body’s natural recycling system, lysosomes, plays a vital role in removing the protein progerin, which drives premature aging. By reactivating this system, scientists were able to help cells recover their youthful behavior and potentially develop new anti-aging treatments. A study published in Science China Life Sciences found that stimulating lysosome activity can restore cellular “cleanup” function, reducing signs of cell aging and paving the way for therapies targeting age-related diseases such as Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) and chronic kidney disease (CKD).
