The iconic Chicago-area “Home Alone” house has found new owners, Mansion Global has learned. The traditional red brick Georgian-style home in Winnetka, Illinois, closed on Thursday for $5.5 million, slightly over its asking price of $5.25 million.
The home, which was listed for sale in May last year, attracted a buyer within a week of hitting the market. However, it took more than seven months to finalize the sale due to an agreement between the sellers and buyers to allow the current owners to stay in the home for one more holiday season.
The 9,100-square-foot home features five bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and modern amenities such as an open kitchen, a home theater, and an indoor sports court. Its architectural details, including the iconic entry staircase from “Home Alone,” were a major factor in its appeal to the buyers.
Built in 1921, the home underwent an extensive renovation in 2018 that added to its historic charm while incorporating modern features. The property is located blocks away from Winnetka’s village center and the shore of Lake Michigan, making it a unique blend of old-world elegance and scenic lakefront views.
The new owners are thrilled to take possession of the home, which has become a popular tourist destination for fans of the 1990 Christmas movie classic. According to their agent, Lori Nieman, “They want to be stewards of the home for a long time to come.”
