Apple is planning to upgrade its MacBook Pro line with a new M5 chip in the fall of 2025, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The move will precede the release of the same chip on the iPad Pro, which won’t arrive until the first half of 2026. This means that last year’s iPad Pro models will likely remain in use for two years.
In contrast, Apple’s other iPads are due for an update sooner. Both the entry-level iPad and the M2-powered 2024 iPad Air are expected to be replaced by new models in the first half of 2025. The upcoming MacBook Air is also on track to launch this year, with Gurman expecting it to hit stores by March at the latest.
With several product refreshes on the horizon, including a promise from Tim Cook about an “newest member of the family,” it’s shaping up to be a busy period for Apple in 2025.
