Apple has announced its next desktop operating system, macOS Tahoe 26, which will feature the company’s new Liquid Glass user interface (UI). The update is expected to bring several exciting features, including a customizable desktop OS and a revamped Phone app.
Unlike previous versions, Tahoe 26’s version number does not follow a sequential numbering system. Instead, it reflects the upcoming year, making it easier for users to keep track of updates across Apple’s platforms.
The new Liquid Glass refresh introduces a transparent menu bar, light and dark tints for display modes, and allows for more customization than ever before. Users can expect a seamless integration with iOS 26, featuring live activities from their phone in the menu bar.
Tahoe 26 also brings significant updates to Spotlight, Apple’s search function. The new spotlight will be able to search across files, apps, messages, and third-party cloud storage, making it more powerful than ever before.
For power users, Apple is introducing “Quick Keys” – short strings of letters that can immediately launch specific functions. Additionally, the AI-powered Apple Intelligence features are coming to all platforms, including Live Translations in the Messages app, new Genmoji, and Image Playground features.
The update also includes a dedicated Games app, revamped Safari, and redesigned Photos app, all featuring Liquid Glass highlights. The annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) kicks off today, June 9, where Apple will share more details about macOS Tahoe 26 and other upcoming updates.
