macOS Tahoe Beta: Should You Install?

Apple has made the first macOS Tahoe developer beta available for testing before its official release in the fall. To access the beta, you’ll need to register your Apple Account with the Apple Developer program.

macOS Tahoe introduces a major redesign for the platform with the all-new Liquid Glass interface and a host of new features. These include the Phone app on Mac, powerful new Spotlight actions, further Apple Intelligence integration, a dedicated Games app, and customizable backgrounds in Messages.

However, installing beta software can be problematic due to bugs and issues that may prevent software from working properly or cause system problems. Apple recommends not installing macOS developer beta updates on your main Mac. If you have a spare Mac available, consider using it instead.

Before installing, ensure your Mac meets the system requirements:

– MacBook Air with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
– MacBook Pro with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
– iMac (2020 and later)
– Mac mini (2020 and later)
– Mac Studio (2022 and later)
– Mac Pro (2019 and later)

Make sure to back up your Mac using Time Machine before installing the software. To install macOS Tahoe Developer Beta, follow these steps:

1. Register your Apple Account with the Apple Developer program.
2. Open System Settings and select General > Software Update.
3. Look for “Beta Updates” and click the info icon.
4. Choose macOS Tahoe 26 Developer Beta from the dropdown list.
5. Click Upgrade Now to begin the update process.

Note: The installation process will complete like a standard macOS update, but be aware that this is beta software, and issues may arise.
