Macron’s Nuclear Comments Spark Tensions with Russia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused French President Emmanuel Macron of posing a threat to Russia by suggesting an extension of France’s nuclear umbrella in case of growing uncertainties. However, Macron emphasized that no decision has been taken and denied making any direct statements about using nuclear weapons against Russia.

The comments come amid concerns about US foreign policy shifts and the need for increased defense spending and military aid to Ukraine. European leaders welcome Macron’s proposal, while Lavrov and Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov describe the French leader’s remarks as “very confrontational” and accuse France of escalating tensions.

Russia has been accused of waging a hybrid war against Europe, including sabotage on the continent. Western intelligence agencies warn that Moscow may seek to launch a large-scale war in Europe within the next five years.
