Apple has finally confirmed an April release date for its highly anticipated upgrade to the Mail app on Macs and iPads. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the long-awaited update will bring artificial intelligence (AI)-tinged features similar to those introduced in iOS 18.2.
The new Mail app on Macs will use AI to automatically sort incoming mail into different categories, such as receipts, newsletters, and promotions. This feature aims to make email management more efficient and streamlined.
While the iPhone version received mixed reviews from tech experts, Gurman suggests that Apple may refine this feature before its release on Macs. Users can currently turn off the new layout by switching to “List View” in the Mail settings area.
The April update will also bring improvements to Siri, allowing it to better tap into personal information and use App Intents technology for more precise control over apps.
Additionally, Apple is expected to introduce other AI features with the release of macOS 15.3 “in a few weeks,” including a new custom emoji on Macs. The company has also announced plans to reduce its reliance on AI, starting by disabling summaries from news and entertainment apps.
