Macy’s has announced plans to close 66 “non-go-forward” stores, including three in western Washington, as part of its new Bold New Chapter strategy. The closures are expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and will help the retailer focus on investing in its more productive stores.
The company aims to return to sustainable sales growth through this strategy, which involves closing underperforming locations and investing in online channels. Since launching the initiative in February 2024, pilot stores have seen significant sales boosts and improved customer satisfaction scores.
CEO Tony Spring stated that the closures are necessary to allow the company to prioritize investments in its go-forward stores, where customers have responded positively to enhanced product offerings and service. With a stronger store fleet, Macy’s plans to enhance its customer experience across locations nationwide and online.
