Madera County has become a Second Amendment Sanctuary after its board of supervisors voted 4-0-1 in favor of the declaration. The decision supports gun ownership rights and opposes California’s new firearms law, AB 1127.
The law restricts the sale of certain firearms that can be easily modified into fully automatic weapons, mainly affecting some Glock models. Madera County’s resolution acknowledges the Second Amendment as a fundamental right and expresses support for responsible firearm ownership.
While symbolic, this declaration aligns with other jurisdictions nationwide that have adopted similar sanctuary declarations to resist state or federal gun control efforts. The measure passed without amendments, with Supervisors Jordan Wamhoff, David Rogers, Robert Poythress, and Leticia Gonzalez voting in favor.
