Magic: The Gathering’s Latest Expansion Brings Back Dragons

Magic: The Gathering is set to release its latest expansion, Tarkir: Dragonstorm, which marks a new direction for the trading card game as it enters its next original expansion. The set will see planeswalkers Elspeth and Narset team up to investigate the threat of dragons that have been cropping up across the last couple of expansion narratives.

Dragons are a huge element of Dragonstorm, with numerous dragon cards and big dragon creatures to play around in decks. Two major new mechanics being introduced for Dragonstorm are “Behold” and “Omen.” The Behold mechanic allows players to point to a dragon card to activate an ability on another card, while the Omen ability lets dragons be useful to draw other cards and then be saved back into the deck.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm will also feature the five clans of Tarkir – Abzan, Mardu, Jeskai, Sultai, and Temur – each with their unique mechanic that defines their archetype in the set. The sets include commander decks built around a particular Tarkir clan, synergizing around two potential commanders: one of the clan leaders or one of their matching spirit dragons.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm is set to release on April 11 and will bring back familiar elements from the original Tarkir block while introducing new mechanics and themes.
