Mainland China Investors Boost Hong Kong Stocks’ Value

A growing presence of mainland Chinese investors in Hong Kong stocks is helping to narrow the valuation gap with onshore peers and potentially lift Hong Kong shares higher. According to recent data, mainland traders now account for almost 12% of Hong Kong shares, up from about one-third a year ago. This increase in trading activity has led to a significant boost in Southbound trading accounts, which now make up around 46% of the average daily turnover in February, compared to one-third a year ago.
