Makhachev Breaks Nurmagomedov’s Defending Record at UFC 311

Islam Makhachev successfully defended his lightweight title at UFC 311, defeating Renato Moicano in just one round. The Russian champion has now set a new record by defending his belt four times in a row, a first in the UFC. This performance also cements Makhachev’s position as the UFC’s pound-for-pound best fighter.

Makhachev, 33, defeated Moicano, 35, with a brabo choke just over one minute into the fight. The dominant champion improved his record to 27 wins and just one loss, extending his current winning streak to 15.

UFC President Dana White has also acknowledged Makhachev as his personal pound-for-pound best after he spent the last 12 months making a case for heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

In another title fight, Merab Dvalishvili outpointed Umar Nurmagomedov over five rounds to retain his bantamweight title. The Georgian fighter weathered an early storm and took control of the contest in the second half.

Czech fighter Jiri Prochazka also delivered a knockout performance against Jamahal Hill, stopping him in the third round of their light-heavyweight bout. Prochazka called out current UFC light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira after his win, stating he wants a third fight with the Brazilian.
