Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 Search Resumes After 11 Years

Malaysia’s government has approved a new search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which vanished in 2014 with 239 people on board. The plane’s disappearance remains one of the aviation industry’s greatest mysteries.

US-based tech firm Ocean Infinity will lead the search, which will cover an area of 5,800 square miles in the Indian Ocean. The company has signed a “no-find, no-fee” contract with Malaysian officials, meaning it won’t receive its $70 million reward unless it finds the plane.

Ocean Infinity had previously searched for MH370 but failed to find any wreckage. This time, the search will focus on a new area in the Indian Ocean where researchers believe the plane crashed after deviating from its planned flight path.

The Armada 7806, Ocean Infinity’s deep-water support vessel, arrived in the designated search zone in late February and is equipped with autonomous underwater vehicles to scan the ocean floor. The company aims to bring resolution to the families of those on board and has been working on improving its technology and capabilities since it last searched for MH370 in 2018.

The search marks a new chapter in the ongoing investigation, which was suspended several years ago after Ocean Infinity shut down its previous investigation without finding any signs of the missing aircraft.
