Man Arrested for Fake Bomb Threat on Spirit Airlines Flight

A 23-year-old Michigan man, John Charles Robinson, has been arrested after allegedly making a fake bomb threat that forced the evacuation of his scheduled Spirit Airlines flight at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. According to authorities, Robinson called the airline claiming there was a bomb on board, leading to an extensive search by FBI agents and bomb-sniffing dogs. The aircraft was found to be clear of explosives, but Robinson’s actions sparked a coordinated response involving local law enforcement agencies.

The Justice Department said Robinson’s call, made using his cellphone, contained false information about a bomb threat to Flight 2145 departing for Los Angeles. He claimed there were individuals attempting to carry a bomb through security and that it would not be detectable. No one was injured during the incident, but authorities noted that such threats undermine public safety and waste valuable law enforcement resources.

Robinson was taken into custody by the FBI after returning to the airport to depart on another flight. He appeared in federal court on Friday afternoon and was released on bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for June 27.
