Man Arrested in Connection with Brooklyn Park Teen’s Fatal Shooting

Melchizedek Kpaan, a 25-year-old man from Maple Grove, was arrested on Friday near Cleveland in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old girl, Zoe Kpanlin. Kpanlin died on July 1 at a home in Brooklyn Park.

The arrest occurred after an extensive investigation by the Brooklyn Park police department, assisted by the Ohio State Patrol. Kpaan is charged with second-degree murder and had his criminal complaint sealed to prevent him from knowing he was being charged while on the run.

Kpaan’s past includes previous charges in Minnesota, including illegal gun possession, drug possession, and first-degree robbery. He has a trial scheduled for August 18 related to an earlier arrest where he fled police in Crystal.

The sealed complaint is expected to be made public soon, revealing more details about the killing and potentially shedding light on the motive behind Kpaan’s actions.
