Man Killed by Stray Weight at Track Meet Remembered as Dedicated Husband

A man, remembered as a dedicated husband and father with a sense of humor, was killed by an errant weight during a hammer throw event at a youth track and field meet in Colorado. Wade Langston, 57, was struck by the weight, which had passed through clear barriers, after he tried to shield his wife and son from it. His family has set up two GoFundMe campaigns to help cover college tuition for his son, with over $15,000 raised so far. An investigation is ongoing into how the equipment was set up, but no factors are yet identified as contributing to the accident. Langston’s widow, Tamara Rocha, wrote on one campaign that she hopes the funds will also help him “live his best life” now that he’s gone. Fatal accidents in track and field competitions are rare but not uncommon; similar incidents have claimed lives at events across the country in recent years.
