Man Sentenced to 29 Years for Role in Rapper Pop Smoke’s Killing

Corey Walker, 24, has expressed remorse for his role in the 2020 killing of rapper Pop Smoke. On Friday, he was sentenced to 29 years in prison after previously accepting a plea deal for voluntary manslaughter and two counts of robbery. Walker apologized to Pop Smoke’s family, community, and himself, taking responsibility for his actions.

Walker told the court that he would steer clear from negative behavior as he begins his road to rehabilitation. He thanked his defense team for helping him avoid a harsher punishment initially facing life without parole. The 29-year sentence is significantly less than the initial charge of murder.
